Heinrich von Gimborn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich Karl Friedrich von Gimborn (born March 12, 1830 in Emmerich ; † February 18, 1893 there ) was a German pharmacist and entrepreneur . He is the founder of the chemical-pharmaceutical company H. von Gimborn in Emmerich.

Life

Heinrich von Gimborn came based in Emmerich at least since the 17th century apothecary family of Gimborn and was the son of a pharmacist Theodor Caspar von Gimborn (1801-1879) and Johanna Hendrina Westhooven (1805-1880). His brother was the engineer and later industrialist Theodor von Gimborn (1840-1916). During the March Revolution of 1848 Gimborn was not in his hometown.

In 1855, as a so-called first class pharmacist, Gimborn initially only took over the management of his father's pharmacy, the "Adler Pharmacy" in Emmerich (Steinstrasse). The pharmacy temporarily supplied the region as far as Nijmegen and Arnhem in the Netherlands . Gimborn ran the "Adler Pharmacy" until 1881 and then sold it to Wilhelm Disselmann for 120,000  gold marks .

Also in 1855 Gimborn founded a chemical-pharmaceutical factory in Emmerich, the H. von Gimborn Chemische Fabrik & Dampf Pulveriser Anstalt and today's H. von Gimborn GmbH . Gimborn made the decision to found the company after he discovered that bile ink can be made from willow . His company began producing tinctures , essences and extracts on an industrial scale with 16 employees , and in 1860 the production of inks and adhesives followed . The factory's dispatch manager at the time was the accountant Edmond Johannes Künneke , father of the later composer Eduard Künneke . In 1886 Heinrich von Gimborn's son, August Max Theodor von Gimborn (1866–1927), founded a second factory in the neighboring small town of 's-Heerenberg in the Netherlands . Branches in South America, China and the USA soon followed.

Several Gimborn products established themselves as successful branded items . These include, for example, the “gym liquorice ” and the fennel honey “Stern-Biene”, which were to be found in German pharmacies and drugstores until the 1970s and which are still produced today under these trademarks by other manufacturers and adopters of the trademark rights .

Heinrich von Gimborn married on May 22, 1859 in the Mennonite Church in Emmerich Elisabeth Catharine A. Hallensleben (1834–1889) from Appeldorn , the daughter of August Hallensleben and Catharine Charlotte von Zütphen. The couple had a daughter and three sons. After the death of his first wife in August 1889, Gimborn married Catharine Louise Theodora van Treek (1836-1905) from Xanten on April 8, 1890 in Emmerich .

  2. Additional remarks: Today's "Adler-Apotheke" was founded by Franz Johannes Rys in 1721 , passed into the possession of the von Gimborn family in 1757 and was therefore initially called "Gimbornsche Apotheke", later it was renamed "Adler-Apotheke". Mathias Julianus von Gimborn was the owner from 1757 to 1794 , in 1794 it passed into the possession of Johannes Reinier von Gimborn and from 1820 it was run by Theodor Kaspar von Gimborn until it was taken over by Heinrich von Gimborn in 1855 and operated until 1881. 3. Additional remarks: At that time the pharmacy building had a false ceiling with a hole through which the pharmacist could follow the process on the ground floor from above. … Under Heinrich's father Theodor Kaspar von Gimborn , the “Adler-Apotheke” merged in 1831 with the “Löwen-Apotheke” of the Schuurmann family; seven years later the merger was canceled. 9. Additional remarks: Nycomed Deutschland GmbH (formerly Altana ) is currently the owner of the trademark rights to the “Gym” trademark and manufactures various products based on liquorice under this name . The owner of the rights to the trademark “Stern-Biene” is currently Altana Consumer Health GmbH , which manufactures various products based on fennel honey under this name . The distribution of these health products ( Engl. Consumer Health ) are each mainly through pharmacies and drugstores.
