Heinrich von Güntersberg (* approx. 1340 ; † approx. 1419 ) was Vogt of Kallies and across the land between Netze and Drage in the Neumark and Knight of the Teutonic Order .

Life

Heinrich von Güntersberg made himself known to posterity between 1361 and 1419 through 90 documentary evidence. He was an early and prominent member of the noble family of of Güntersberg .

1374 he was selected by Markgraf Siegmund with Kallies castle and the Bailiwick between networks and Drage invested . Property and office were confirmed to him in 1378, 1399 and 1402 by the Luxembourgers .

Kallies and the surrounding goods were already in possession of his family or relatives, the Kenstel, before this lending . Nevertheless, the loan was the basis of a remarkable career.

In 1400 the Teutonic Order acquired Dramburg , in 1402 also Kallies. In the same year, led by Heinrich von Güntersberg , the knighthood and the towns of Neumark paid homage to Grand Master Konrad von Jungingen . He became one of the order's most important allies in the Neumark. Güntersberg was regularly present for consultations or in all sorts of shops at the Marienburg . In the Tressler book of the Teutonic Order, he was always referred to as Herr or Hauptmann von Kallies in the 61 mentions of his person in the years 1399 to 1409 . During the troubled times, with constant clashes with Poland and Pomerania , he initially managed to keep the situation stable with diplomatic skills. After, for example, the Duke of Pomerania-Stolp became a party member of Poland, he was able to defend the Szczecin Duke Swantibor III. hold with the order.

In 1407 Güntersberg lost all of his possessions in the Wałcz region to the Poles as a result of the ongoing conflicts. But even after the defeat at Tannenberg , he remained a loyal vassal of the order. The feud his family with the fronds , which keep well for their goods in Wałcz were changed to the poles before the war, ran to meet its peak during this period. Much of the goods he had left, even kallies, had been looted or burned down. In 1419 Heinrich von Güntersberg turned to Grand Master Heinrich von Plauen for the last time , pleading for help and accusing his country of being devastated. A little later he must have died.

The circle of the rise and ruin of an outstanding man was thus closed. But not without consequences, because the dukes of Pomerania-Stettin now stood against Brandenburg and in 1420 advanced with a strong armed force, pillaging the country against Dramburg. The sons of Güntersberg , now in their father's position as leaders of the Neumark estates, finally refused to pay homage to the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order in 1429.

family

Heinrich von Güntersberg was married to Margarethe von der Osten , daughter of the Margravial Brandenburg Council and Vogt of the Neumark Betkin von der Osten (archd. 1330-1363), and Margarethe von Satzkow . Among the children who emerged from the marriage, the sons Burkhard (⚔ 1433) and Eckard († after 1448) should be mentioned.

The former, 38 documents from him have come down to us, fell in 1433 while defending Dramburg against the Pomerania. It was only through the marriage of Burkhard's daughter Ulgard with Zülz von Wedel that the feud between the two families could be settled. Burkhard's son Heinrich continued the line that probably produced the Norwegian line on Mel and the Swedish - Livonian line on Gärahov and Uddern , but ultimately with the brothers Ewald Friedrich von Güntersberg († 1732), the last owners of Kallies and Hans Adam von Güntersberg († 1734) is extinct in the male line.

Eckard, named in 70 documents, took over the management of the family after the untimely death of his brother. Despite the rift of 1429, he found his way back to the service of the Teutonic Order. For example, in 1447 he was one of the order's negotiators for the acquisition of Gotland .
