Heinrich Carl Joseph Ritter von Mendel, Edler von Steinfels (born January 2, 1849 in Jetzendorf , Upper Bavaria , † August 25, 1902 in Griesbach , Lower Bavaria ) was the Prussian State Economics Council and a member of the Prussian House of Representatives .

Life

Mendel-Steinfels, son of Eduard Ritter von Mendl (* around 1823) and Anna Hutter (* around 1825), was a trained farmer and initially lived in the USA for a few years. In 1880 he became general secretary of the "Oldenburg Agricultural Society", in 1887 he became general secretary in the "Agricultural Central Association" of the Province of Saxony and from 1896 the Chamber of Agriculture of the Province of Saxony.

In 1893 he became a royal Prussian state economics councilor. Mendel-Steinfels was active in the farmers' union , was a member of the board of the "Bimetallistenbund" and was a lecturer in agriculture at the University of Halle . From 1894 to 1902 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives for the German Conservative Party (DkP).

He dealt intensively with the idea of cooperatives and was involved in the establishment of Raiffeisen associations . He also wrote various papers on agricultural topics.

Mendel-Steinfels first married on September 12, 1871 in Freising (Upper Bavaria) Anna Ludowika May (born July 18, 1852 in Augsburg ; † June 23, 1885 in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) ). In his second marriage, he married Laura Berghaus on December 1, 1887 in Essen (* November 23, 1855; †?).
