Heinrich Adam Opel (from 1917 of Opel * 22. September 1873 in Rüsselsheim , † 25. May 1928 in Mainz ) was a producer from the family Opel and owner of Opel plants .

He was the descendant of a farming family originally from the Landgraviate of Hessen-Rheinfels and was the third son of Adam and Sophie Opel . The marriage on November 3, 1898 with Wilhelmine Luise Emilie Weber (1878–1928), who came from a Kelsterbach estate owner family, gave birth to the children Heinz (1899–1922), Emmy (1902–1963) and the successful show jumper Irmgard (1907–1986) ).

Life

His father, Adam Opel , founded the family business as a manufacturer of sewing machines in Rüsselsheim in 1862 , but later expanded the group into a bicycle manufacturer. After his father's death in 1895, his five sons took over the company. In 1898 Wilhelm and his brother Fritz brought the company into the automotive industry with the purchase of the small Lutzmann factory in Dessau . On October 4, 1900, Heinrich Opel acquired Westerhaus Castle .

Heinrich and his brother Wilhelm were appointed privy councilor by the last Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig on March 13, 1917 in Darmstadt and at the same time raised to the nobility of the Hessian grand ducal class. His brother Carl was raised to the nobility on January 17, 1918 and appointed privy councilor on March 7.

Heinrich von Opel is buried in the Opel mausoleum in Rüsselsheim am Main .
