Count Heinrich zu Stolberg (born January 2, 1509 at Stolberg Castle (Harz) , † November 12, 1572 ibid) was a German regent.

Life

Heinrich is the fourth son of the ruling Count Botho zu Stolberg and his wife Anna nee. Countess of Eppstein-Koenigstein. His oldest sister is Juliana zu Stolberg , the ancestor of the Nassau-Oranien family. He received his nickname Heinrich in memory of his uncle Count Heinrich d. J. zu Stolberg, whose body was brought to Stolberg from Cologne one day after his birth .

Heinrich spent several years at the court of his grandfather, Count Eberhard von Eppstein in Königstein im Taunus . His teachers included u. a. the humanist Dr. Johann Caesarius from Cologne .

From November 1525 Heinrich studied at the University of Leipzig , where he was accompanied by Tilemann Plathner . His father managed to reserve canon posts in Cologne and Mainz for Heinrich . When a canon position in Halberstadt became vacant in 1538 , he returned to his home and began to set up his home in Gut Dardesheim, the cathedral provost. Here he received the news in 1542 that the post of cathedral dean at the Cologne monastery had been transferred to him after the death of Friedrich von Beichlingen . So Heinrich moved back to the Rhine. There he soon discovered that Archbishop Hermann von Wied had subscribed to the idea of ​​the Reformation , which he himself actively supported. Together with the archbishop, Count Heinrich was removed from office by the Pope.

His marriage to Elisabeth († 1578), daughter of Count Hector I von Gleichen, whom he married on November 3, 1556 in Quedlinburg, had the following children:
