Heinz-Peter Behr

Heinz-Peter Behr (born September 19, 1955 in Troisdorf ) is a German diplomat and has been the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Hungary since 2015 .

Life

After graduating from high school , Behr did his military service with the Air Force in Cologne-Wahn between 1974 and 1976 and then began studying French and Spanish language and history at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , a University of Paris and the University of Oviedo , the he graduated in 1982.

He then joined the Foreign Service in 1983 and, after completing his attaché training, was an advisor in the office of State Minister Jürgen Möllemann from 1985 to 1986 . After 1986 his promotion to Dr. phil. with a dissertation on the subject of Spanish satire in the 18th century at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, he became permanent representative of the ambassador in Malawi and from 1989 to 1990 worked in the economics department of the embassy in Hungary and there for the Responsible for looking after refugees from the German Democratic Republic .

On his return he was initially a member of Section 101 (Personnel) at the German Foreign Office and then from 1993 to 1995 Permanent Representative of the Head of the Information Office in New York City . This was followed by a position as head of a project group in Section 110 (Organization) in the Foreign Office and, from August to September 2000, as head of the Prizren branch of the embassy in Kosovo .

He then was ambassador to Madagascar between 2000 and 2003 before returning to Germany and head of the crisis center at the Foreign Office in Berlin from 2003 to 2007 . This was followed by a position as consul general in São Paulo .

From September 8, 2010 to October 2012, Heinz-Peter Behr was ambassador to the Netherlands .

From 2012 to 2015 he was head of the foreign department in the office of the Federal President .
