Heinz Fehling (* 5. November 1912 in Scheeßel ; † 20th January 1989 near Baden-Baden ) was a German advertising - graphic .

biography

Fehling was the son of a tailor. He graduated from elementary school in Scheeßel, then upper secondary school and attended the state arts and crafts school in Bremen from 1928 to 1931 . He was trained by Willy Menz . In 1931 he founded the company uniwerbung in Bremen with Hans Günther Oesterreich . In 1933 Austria fled to Paris from the NSDAP .

Fehling mainly worked as a house graphic artist for Emil Fritz's companies (including Astoria (Bremen) ). From 1936 to 1940 he made a name for himself in Bremen, among other things through orders for the automobile manufacturer Borgward , the breweries Hemelinger and Haake-Beck , the Atlas-Werke , the North German Lloyd and the aircraft manufacturer Focke-Wulf . Through these contacts he was made indispensable for military service until 1942 , after which he drew propaganda posters for the Reichswehr . From 1943 he worked in the propaganda department Südstern . There he met Hans Weidemann and Henri Nannen . In the vicinity of Bologna they produced leaflets intended to persuade enemy troops to give up.

After the Second World War , Fehling lost his studio. At first he made his living with drawings in the US Army casino and with pin-up work . By 1950 he rebuilt his existence with posters for entertainment events (revue, cinema, radio Bremen) as well as newspaper and party advertising.

Through his war contacts with Nannen and Weidemann, he increasingly oriented himself to Hamburg. From 1949 he was a member of the editorial board of the magazine Gondel and wrote the front pages until 1953. For the Miss Germany elections organized by Weidemann , he made the posters for organizers and organizers (magazine gondola and stocking manufacturer Opal ). Through his contacts with Nannen, his work was presented in the Stern .

In 1950 he got an order from the Brewers' Association , further work was done for Borgwards Goliath GP 700 and Isabella , for the North Sea spa in Cuxhaven and for Bremen's Astoria by Emil Fritz . In 1952, Fehling designed his famous posters for Veedol motor oil . In 1953 he received another order from Sinalco . Many of his works are kept in various museums, including the German Historical Museum in Berlin .

In 1960, Fehling was a member of the jury for the Miss Germany election. In 1974 he made his works available to museums and his home town of Scheeßel. His final resting place is there.
