Heinz Heubner

Heinz Heubner (born March 6, 1908 in Leipzig , † January 27, 1995 in Werl ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher .

Life

Heinz Heubner was the son of the Chamber of Commerce Secretary Paul Leonhard Heubner (* 1874) and his wife Franziska geb. Boele. Due to his father being transferred several times, the family moved to Schweidnitz in 1909 and to Chemnitz in 1913 , where Heubner attended the first boys' school from 1914 to 1918 and the state high school from 1918 to 1927. Heubner then studied Classical Philology and German Philology at the universities in Munich (summer semester 1927 – summer semester 1928, winter semester 1929/30), Berlin (winter semester 1928/29), Bonn (summer semester 1929) and Leipzig (summer semester 1930 – winter semester 1931/32). In the winter semester 1930/31 he became a member of the Leipzig Philological Seminary, which was then headed by Friedrich Klingner and Alfred Körte . 1935 Heubner was with a dissertation on Tacitus Dr. phil. PhD .

After the state examination and doctorate, Heubner worked as a study assessor. In 1942 he was drafted into the Second World War. After his return from American captivity, Heubner initially taught at the Mission Society of the Holy Spirit in Menden (Sauerland) . In 1951 he moved to the Marien-Gymnasium Werl as a teacher (later senior teacher) . In addition to teaching, he worked on a commentary on the Histories of Tacitus, which appeared in five volumes from 1963 to 1982. From 1965 to 1969 he took a leave of absence in order to be able to carry out his scientific studies unhindered. In 1970 he retired.

Heubner's achievements in Tacitus research were recognized by the University of Basel by being awarded an honorary doctorate in philosophy (1983) and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia by being awarded the title of professor (1984).
