Heinz Karl Behrendt

Heinz Karl Behrendt also Karl Heinz Behrendt (born May 23, 1913 in Potsdam ; † February 26, 2003 in Berlin ) was a German politician of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). From 1965 to 1978 he was Deputy Minister for Foreign Trade and responsible for trade with the Federal Republic of Germany .

Life

Behrendt fought from 1939 to 1945 as a commissioned officer of an air regiment news of the German Wehrmacht in World War II . In 1946 he joined the SED and became a calculation tester for textiles at the state government of Brandenburg . In 1951 he moved to the Ministry of Economics and Labor of the State of Brandenburg, where he became head of the main industry department. 1952/53 Behrendt was deputy chairman of the council of the Cottbus district and from 1953 to 1958 vice-president of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of the GDR .

In 1958, Behrendt moved to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and became head of the main department and authorized representative for domestic German trade. In this function he was a negotiating partner of the trustee office for interzonal trade with the Federal Republic of Germany. From 1965 until his retirement in 1978, Behrendt was deputy minister.
