Heinz Meier (trade unionist)

Heinz Meier (born November 20, 1913 in Berlin ; † September 14, 1991 ) was a German trade unionist ( FDGB ). From 1951 to 1961 he was chairman of the central board of the industrial union (IG) printing and paper in the FDGB.

Life

Meier, the son of a taxidermist , attended elementary school and learned the profession of typesetter. He initially worked in the profession. In 1931 he became a member of the Communist Youth Association of Germany (KJVD). After 1933 he worked as a farm worker, controller at Daimler-Benz and planning technician in Genshagen near Potsdam and did illegal resistance work. In 1939/40 he did military service in the Wehrmacht . From 1940 to 1945 he worked again at Daimler-Benz in Genshagen.

In 1945 he became a member of the FDGB and secretary of the trade union committee in Berlin-Treptow . In 1946 he joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). 1946/47 he worked as a district councilor for economics in the district office of Berlin-Treptow. From 1947 to 1949 he was secretary of the central board (ZV) of the IG graphics / printing or printing and paper, from 1949 to 1951 second chairman and from 1951 to 1961 first chairman of the ZV of the IG printing and paper. From 1947 to 1961 he was a member of the central board of IG Druck und Papier and from 1950 to 1961 the FDGB federal board (BuV). From 1952 to 1961 he was a member of the Presidium of the FDGB-BuV. In November 1961 he was released from his functions in the FDGB for "gross violation of the FDGB statutes". He then worked from 1964 to 1976 as Director of DEWAG 's Berlin District Office and in 1976/77 as Deputy General Director of DEWAG.

Meier died at the age of 77 and was buried in the VdN facility in the central cemetery in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde .
