Heinz Oehler

Heinz Oehler (born February 1, 1920 in Altenburg ; † September 26, 1973 ) was a German trade unionist . He was chairman of the central board of the industrial union printing and paper in the FDGB and director of the union college "Fritz Heckert" .

Life

Oehler, son of a working-class family, attended elementary school and completed an apprenticeship as a book printer in Altenburg. Then he worked in the profession. In 1939 he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service and later for military service in the Wehrmacht . In 1945 Oehler was taken prisoner by the British in Schleswig-Holstein .

In 1945 he returned to Altenburg and worked there again as a book printer until 1950. In 1945 he joined the FDGB and in 1946 the SED . In 1950 he became chairman of the company union management in the "Pierersche Druckerei" in Altenburg. In 1951 he studied at the "Fritz Heckert" union college in Bernau near Berlin . Between 1951 and 1960 he taught at the FDGB University. Between 1955 and 1961, Oehler completed a distance learning course at the SED's "Karl Marx" party college , which he graduated with a degree in social science.

In 1960 he became the head of the teaching department at the FDGB University, and in 1960/61 he was deputy director of the university. From October 1961 to January 1966, Oehler was chairman of the central board of IG Druck und Papier. From 1966 he worked again as deputy director and was then director of the FDGB University from 1969 to 1973. In 1972 he was appointed professor.

From 1961 until his death in 1973, Oehler was a member of the FDGB's federal executive committee. He was also the longstanding President of the International Standing Committee of the Graphic Industry Trade Unions.

Oehler died after a short, serious illness at the age of 53.
