Heinz Steguweit

Heinz Steguweit (born March 19, 1897 in Cologne , † May 25, 1964 in Halver , Westphalia ) was a German writer who also published under the pseudonym Lambert Wendland . Steguweit was a member of the Bamberg circle of poets .

Life

Heinz Steguweit was the son of an oil trader from East Prussia . After attending high school , he studied at a commercial college . He took part in the First World War as a soldier . In 1916 he was so badly wounded in a gas attack on the Somme that he was blind for a year . After recovering, he fought again in Artois and Flanders , although 75% war-damaged . After the end of the war he worked from 1918 to 1925 as an employee in a bank. Back in the early twenties to Steguweit that of the committed Catholic youth movement to ethnic had found circles in resisting the occupation of the Rhineland . From 1925 he lived as a freelance writer in Cologne .

After the National Socialist " seizure of power ", Steguweit sided with the new rulers and joined the NSDAP in May 1933 . In October 1933 he was with 87 other writers of the signatories of the of Hitler directed vow faithful followers . In 1933 Steguweit received a post as cultural-political editor at the West German Observer , and from 1934 he was regional director of the Reichsschrifttumskammer for the Gau Cologne-Aachen . In this function he remained loyal to the regime until its fall.

After the end of the war, many of his works were placed on the list of literature to be sorted out in the Soviet occupation zone and in the German Democratic Republic .

Artistic creation

Heinz Steguweit, who had made his debut as a poet , wrote mainly cheerful stories and plays during the Weimar Republic , but also works in which he stylized his war and post-war experiences into heroic struggle. With the works created during the Nazi era , Steguweit made a name for himself as an uncompromising, loyal supporter of the National Socialist ideology. After 1945 he started writing harmless books for children and young people , undemanding amateur games and company festivities .
