Heinz Weisbarth (2010)

Heinz Weisbarth (* 1935 ) is a German art and high diver .

Weisbarth has been active in water sports for almost 60 years and was the 22-year-old German tower champion in 1957 . In order to be able to support his family, however, he soon had to give up his sports career in favor of working as a masseur .

Only when he was retired, Weisbarth has been active again since he was 65. Since then he has taken part in national and international competitions every year, for example the VIII. Gay Games 2010 in Cologne , the “Open International Dutch Masters Championships for Diving Jumpers” 2010 in Eindhoven ( Netherlands ) or the 41st “International German Championships in Diving Masters “2009 in Riesa . In 2009 he was nominated for the choice of Cologne's “Sportsman of the Year”.

As a senior, Weisbarth has meanwhile become Masters world champion in art and high diving several times . In September 2009 he became vice-European champion on the 3-meter board at the "European Masters in Art and High Diving Masters" in Seville ( Spain ). Most recently in July 2010 at the age of 75 at the “Masters World Championships in Artistic and High Diving” (age group 75 to 79 years) in Gothenburg ( Sweden ), he again won triple gold when jumping from the 1-meter and 3-meter board as well as from the tower. His most impressive jump is the one and a half somersault forward with a full twist . For these successes Weisbarth still trains - according to his own statement - with at least 70 jumps from the board and the tower every day.

Three years ago, Weisbarth was the main character in a documentary commercial by Aleksander Bach, a student at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy , for the "Mission 70+" campaign by the sporting goods manufacturer Nike .

Weisbarth lives as a widower in Cologne and is a member of 1. SV Cologne.
