Helichrysum melitense is a plant from the family of the daisy family (Asteraceae). The species is onlynativeto Malta and is critically endangered.

description

Helichrysum melitense is a shrubby , gray-silvery plant that usually reaches heights of 30 to 70 centimeters. The upright, small leaves are lanceolate to linear. Flowering time is from late spring to early summer. The small heads consist only of tubular flowers , these are again arranged in larger flower heads.

distribution

Helichrysum melitense is native to Malta only , it is very rare. It is believed to be extinct on the island of Malta , on Gozo it is only found on the western cliffs and on Fungus Rock .

Systematics and botanical history

The species was first described by Sandro Pignatti in 1980 as Helichrysum rupestre var. Melitense and was established as a separate species in 1988 by Salvatore Brullo , Edwin Lanfranco , Pietro Pavone and G. Ronsisvalle .
