Hellboy - Sword of Storms is a 2006 American cartoon based on an adventure of the cartoon character Hellboy . It is in continuity with the real film Hellboy, which was previously released in 2004 . The main actors in real-life films were also involved in the production of the cartoon. The actors from the real films lend their characters the voices in the English version, and the director of the real film, Guillermo del Toro, was involved as creative producer .

The Paranormal Investigation and Defense Agency of which Hellboy is a member is called to Japan for a case. There a collector of ancient Japanese swords was attacked by Japanese demons, who for this purpose took possession of a Japanese professor. The demons wanted to steal the Sword of Storms from the collector , which he has in his collection. That sword once belonged to the Japanese warrior who defeated and banished the demons at that time. To be able to work again without a human host and in full possession of their demonic powers, they must destroy the sword of storms. While Liz and Abe stay in the US, Hellboy travels to Japan for an investigation, where the operation is led by agent Kate, an expert in Japanese mythology. During the investigation, Hellboy suddenly disappears without a trace when he holds the sword of storms in his hand. He has physically disappeared into a parallel world in which he has to face various characters from Japanese mythology and find his way home.
