The Hellenthalsmühle , also known as Frohnhofer Mühle , is a water mill near Mömbris in the Aschaffenburg district in Bavaria .

geography

The Hellenthalsmühle, which, in contrast to the earlier Mömbriser Obermühle, was also called Untermühle , is located in the middle of Kahlgrund , on the edge of the village of Frohnhofen . She stands at the Kahl on the district of Mömbris in a small forest. Today still present, about twelve feet long spillway with a small Hubschütz , dammed the Bald and directs the Mühlbach to the buildings of Hellenthal mill. A small spring rises on a rocky mountain spur next to the mill . Until the new construction on Staatsstrasse 2305 in 2010, the Kahltal-Spessart cycle path ran as a so-called “church path” directly past the Hellenthalsmühle.

history

The Frohnhofer Mühle is one of the oldest mills on the Kahl. The year 1712 was found on beams, but it is assumed that the mill already existed during the Thirty Years' War and belonged to what was then Hofgut Frohnhofen. It consisted of a flour mill on the left and an oil mill opposite . In 1821 the Stenger couple bequeathed the mill to their son-in-law Joseph Feind, who in turn left it to his daughter Maria Kampfmann. In 1864 Maria and Adam Michael Kampfmann sold the mill to Franz Hellenthal, who was a journeyman in the Michelbacher Obermühle . Since then, the Frohnhofer Mühle has been owned by this family and took over their name.

In 1911 Franz Hellenthal left the mill to his son Georg, who replaced the undershot water wheel of the grain mill with a standing Francis shaft turbine . He was the first miller in Kahlgrund to implement this innovation. The oil mill of the Hellenthalsmühle was still operated by a water wheel with a diameter of 5.2 m. It was almost identical to the Wenceslas Mill in Mühlgasse. However, this oil mill in Mömbris was renovated and relocated in 1977 .

The building of the grain mill, which has since become dilapidated, was brought up to date by Georg Hellenthal's son Arthur in 1950 by building the three-story brick building that still exists today. The daughters of Arthur Hellenthal, who died in 1974, continued to run the mill. In 1981 the water wheel of the oil mill was severely damaged by a flood of the century in the Kahl and was not put back into operation. The flour mill is still functional and only grinds for domestic use.
