Hellmut Glubrecht

Hellmut Ludwig Rudolf Richard Glubrecht (born July 9, 1917 in Neisse , Upper Silesia ; † January 6, 2009 in Wennigsen (Deister) ) was a German engineer and university professor .

Life

Glubrecht completed his studies in Hanover as a graduate engineer in 1939 and worked in the field of high-frequency technology in industry until 1945 . After his doctorate as Dr.-Ing. In 1945 he became an assistant at the Physics Institute of the Technical University of Hanover in 1946 and was also chief engineer there in 1949.

In 1951 , Glubrecht completed his habilitation in the field of physics at the TH Hannover. He then received a teaching position in the field of biophysics at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover .

In December 1959, Glubrecht was appointed to the newly created full chair for radiation biology. Later (1970) Glubrecht was director of the Institute for Radiation Biology at the TH Hannover, which has since been renamed the Technical University. He was also director of the Institute for Radiation Botany of the Society for Radiation Research (Munich / Hanover) and head of the study group for development issues of the Association of German Scientists .

After his retirement in 1985, Glubrecht founded the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hameln-Emmerthal (ISFH), whose chairman he remained until his retirement and with whom he was in close contact until his death.

In 1988 he was awarded the Lower Saxony Prize for “Science” for services to the photovoltaic and solar thermal use of solar energy .

Since the beginning of the 1980s, he has been advocating the interests of the peace movement more and more. He had stated several times that atomic energy would lead to a dead end. He was a member of the Pugwash Conference , which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995.

In 2005 he received the German Solar Prize of the European Association for Renewable Energies Eurosolar in the category Special Prize for special personal commitment as one of two winners.
