Hellmut Herbert Schwarz (born February 2, 1938 in Reichenbach ) is a professor and lecturer at the University of Mannheim at the chair for English and American studies as well as the editor of several English textbooks and an author. He was also an English teacher at the Elisabeth-Gymnasium in Mannheim and head of the study seminar in Heidelberg .

Life

Schwarz grew up in Vogtland , where he graduated from school in 1956 . He studied English and German from 1956 to 1961 : from 1956 to 1958 at the Humboldt University in Berlin and from 1958 to 1961 at the University of Würzburg . In 1963 he was appointed as a study assessor. With the start of school in 1963 he worked as an English teacher at the Elisabethgymnasium in Mannheim and has been working as a grammar school teacher ever since. From 1967 to 1968 Schwarz took part in the German-American Fulbright program as an exchange teacher in the United States .

In 1970 he was appointed professor. From the winter semester 1972/1973 he took on teaching assignments for subject didactics at the University of Mannheim, from the winter semester 1973/1974 he also took over teaching assignments in subject didactics at the University of Heidelberg . From March to April 1986, he participated in the German Marshall Fund program in the United States.

In 1990, Schwarz was appointed to the curriculum commission of the state of Baden-Württemberg . From 1990 he organized the teacher training for the subject English in cooperation with the education ministries of the states of Baden-Württemberg and Saxony . In September 1991 he was appointed professor at a state seminar for school education as a specialist advisor for the second time . At the end of July 2000, the University of Mannheim appointed him honorary professor . He has been retired since August 2002.

Schwarz has been married since 1963 and has two sons.

Teacher training and textbooks

In 1985, Schwarz became editor of the textbook series "English G - New Edition", which had been published since 1972 under the title "English G". As a result, further textbook series were added with “English G 2000” (1998) and “English G 21” (2006). The individual rows consist of up to 400 components.

He held seminars , training courses and events across Germany for the English G 21 concept . As Chairman of the Cornelsen English Network (CEN), he has been promoting the exchange of English teachers in Germany in a trainer network since 2011. Hellmut Schwarz was a member of the advisory board of the non-profit Cornelsen Foundation Teaching and Learning until 2012 .

In total, he is the author of over 1000 works.
