Hellmut von Krohn

Hellmut von Krohn (* unknown; † June 8, 1924 in Barranquilla ) was a pilot in the German air force in World War I and from 1920 to 1924 a postal plane pilot in Colombia .

Life

Mid-1920, he came with his compatriot and colleague Fritz Hammer , and Werner eunuch to Colombia, where he served as pilot of the newly formed airline SCADTA Junkers F 13 - aircraft should fly. Through his work and commitment, von Krohn had made a significant contribution to making SCADTA a success as America's first airline and forerunner of Avianca .

On November 11, 1920 , accompanied by his mechanic Fritz Hammer, he undertook the first flight from the runway in Flandes, south of Girardot , to Bogotá , the capital of Colombia 90 kilometers away , for which an official price had previously been advertised.

On June 8, 1924, he died in a crash due to engine failure of his plane “Tolima” (Junkers factory number 684) while he wanted to drop advertising brochures for aviation over Barranquilla. His companion Ernesto Cortissoz, President of SCADTA, and three other people were also killed.
