Hellwart Gabriel

Hellwart Gabriel (born February 1, 1939 in Glatz , Breslau administrative district ) is a former German politician ( CDU ).

Hellwart Gabriel attended the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium in Berlin-Spandau and graduated from high school in 1959 . He studied political science at the Free University of Berlin and became a political scientist in 1966. During his studies, he joined the CDU in 1963 and was elected to the district assembly (BVV) in the Spandau district in the 1967 Berlin election . In the 1975 election , Gabriel was first elected to the Berlin House of Representatives, but left in June 1975 because BVV Spandau elected him to the district councilor for youth and sport. In 1979 he left office.

Gabriel joined the German Red Cross (DRK) in 1976 and was elected chairman of the DRK Spandau in the same year. From 1980 to 1995 he was managing director of the DRK Spandau, since 1997 he has been the chairman of the DRK Spandau again.

The district mayor Konrad Birkholz awarded Gabriel the "Spandau Badge of Honor" in 2010 for his many years of voluntary work.
