Helmut Bieler (born May 27, 1952 in Bernstein, Burgenland ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and has been President of the Burgenland SPÖ Pensioners Association (PVÖ) since 2018 .

From 1999 to 2017 he was regional councilor in the Burgenland regional government , most recently in charge of finance, culture and infrastructure.

education and profession

Bieler attended elementary school from 1958 to 1963 and then the secondary school in Lockenhaus . In 1967 he switched to the Protestant, music-pedagogical secondary school, where he passed the Matura in 1971. He then completed an apprenticeship at the Federal Pedagogical Academy in Vienna and passed the teaching examination for secondary schools in 1974 in the subjects of mathematics, history and social studies. From 1974 to 1975 Bieler did his military service.

After his training, Bieler was a secondary school teacher in the Burgenland regional service from 1975. In 1992 he was decommissioned.

politics

Bieler was a member of the Bad Tatzmannsdorf municipal council from 1992 and was mayor of the municipality from 1997 to March 1999. In addition, he was the local party chairman of the SPÖ local group from 1983 to 2006. Bieler has been Deputy Regional Chairman of the SPÖ Burgenland since 1998 and was district party chairman of Oberwart from November 12, 1999 , after he was elected district party chairman's deputy in 1992.

Bieler represented the SPÖ from 1992 to 1993 as Federal Councilor and in 1993 moved to the Burgenland Landtag, of which he was a member until 1999. On March 18, 1999, Bieler was elected to the Burgenland provincial government. Most recently, he was responsible for finance, art, culture, science, road construction and state building in the Niessl IV state government .

On December 21, 2017, Bieler handed over his office as Burgenland Provincial Councilor to former Defense Minister Hans Peter Doskozil ( SPÖ ). Hans Peter Doskozil also succeeded him in 2018 as the SPÖ district chairman in the Oberwart district .

In 2018 he succeeded Johann Grillenberger as regional president of the Burgenland Pensioners' Association .
