Helmut Boese (librarian, 1911)

Helmut Boese (born June 28, 1911 in Stockerau , † March 25, 1983 in Vienna ) was an Austrian librarian .

Life

Boese studied Classical Philology at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate there in 1936 with the dissertation "De C. Plini Caecili Secundi dicendi genere". Since June 1, 1933, he was a member of the NSDAP . In October 1938 he began a two-year training course as a librarian at the Austrian National Library . In 1941 he was drafted into military service. After the war he was dismissed from service due to the Nazi law .

Boese published music-historical writings and worked for the archive of the Vienna Philharmonic . From 1963 until his retirement in 1976 he was head of the library of the Austrian Federal Ministry for National Defense .

Boese was buried at the Hietzinger Friedhof in Vienna.
