Helmut Höhlig

Helmut Höhlig (born February 4, 1934 ) is a former German diplomat . He was ambassador of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) in Sri Lanka and the Maldives .

Life

Höhlig learned the trade of a locksmith and later worked as a civil servant. In 1959 he attended the administration school in Weimar , then until 1962 he worked in the industry department at the district council. From 1962 to 1966 he studied foreign policy at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam-Babelsberg . He graduated with a degree in political science.

Since 1966 Höhlig was an employee in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR . From 1967 to 1971 he worked as Vice Consul at the Consulate General of the GDR in Madras ( India ). From 1974 to 1976 he was consul at the consulate general in Bombay , from 1977/78 he was charge of the GDR embassy in Malaysia . From 1983 to 1985 he was Consul General at the Consulate General in Bombay. After all, he worked as the GDR's ambassador in Colombo from September 1986 to 1990 and was second-accredited in the Maldives from 1987. He was received on September 22, 1986 by the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Junius Richard Jayewardene , and on February 12, 1987 by the President of the Republic of the Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom , to deliver the letters of credentials.

Höhlig was a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany .
