Helmut Hallmeier

Helmut Hallmeier (* 1933 - June 26, 1976 ) was a German motorcycle racer .

Career

In 1954 Helmut Hallmeier had one of the most successful years of his career. He took third place with a 250 cm³ eagle at the German Grand Prix at the Solitude near Stuttgart behind Werner Haas and Rupert Hollaus (both NSU - works drivers ) and in front of the Irish Arthur Wheeler on Moto Guzzi and Walter Reichert (NSU), . Through this success he came in ninth place in the overall ranking of the quarter liter class of the motorcycle world championship . In the same year he won the Dieburg triangle race and in Zandvoort ahead of the Czechoslovaks František Bartoš ( ČZ ) and Walter Reichert (NSU).

Hallmeier won twice at the Sachsenring : in 1955 on a 250 cc eagle and in 1957 on a 350 NSU (drilled 250 cc). 1957 was the year of his greatest successes. At the German Grand Prix he took third place with his 350 cm³ NSU behind the Italian Libero Liberati ( Gilera ) and the British John Hartle ( Norton ). That was enough for him, as in 1954, to finish ninth in the 350 cm³ World Championship. In Tubbergen , the Netherlands , he won the Eifel race on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring , on the Halle-Saale loop (also in 1958) and was German champion in the 350cc class.

In 1959 Hallmeier ended his career and opened not a workshop, like many of his racing driver colleagues, but a café in Nuremberg.

Helmut Hallmeier died in 1976 at the age of 43.
