Athletic career

In 1952, the 28-year-old Helmut Koitzsch and the company sports association (BSG) Motor Ammendorf won the fourth-class district class in Saxony-Anhalt. In the decisive game for promotion to the new third-class district league , Koitzsch scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Chemie Schkopau . After the first half of the 1952/53 season at Motor Ammendorf, Koitzch moved to the top community of the chemistry sports association , the top division club BSG Chemie Leipzig . During the winter break, SK Vorwärts Leipzig was therepoached several players, including five strikers. This forced BSG Chemie to look for replacements among lower-class communities. Helmut Koitzsch was among the new players. He took over the position of the poached left winger Gerhard Helbig , completed 16 of the remaining 18 league games and scored four goals. For the 1953/54 season Koitzsch initially returned to Motor Ammendorf. In a friendly game on September 10th in Heidenau Koitzsch got into an extensive scandal in connection with a foul game by an Ammendorfer player, as a result of which he was finally banned until October 13, 1954.

After the suspension was reduced, Koitzsch moved to the upper division Turbine Halle , but was only allowed to play in the reserve team until the end of the season. At the beginning of the 1954/55 season he was taken back into the league collective, which now belonged to the newly founded SC Chemie Halle . Coach Gerhard Glasses used Koitzsch for the first time on matchday two and let him play as a half-left striker for the entire duration of the game. He then only used him as a substitute in the 67th and 62nd minute in the following two league games. After his third assignment for SC Chemie, Koitzsch's top division career was over.

Until the end of December 1955 Koitzsch played for the district league team Empor Halle and then returned to Motor Ammendorf. There he remained active in the district league until 1959.
