Helmut Perlet

Helmut Perlet (born April 9, 1947 in Planegg ) is a German manager . From May 2012 to 2017 he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Allianz SE and since 2016 he has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the GEA Group .

Perlet studied business administration at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and received his doctorate from the University of Hamburg .

In 1971 he took up a job at the tax office in Munich. In 1973 he moved to Allianz Versicherungs-AG. From 1981 he built up the foreign tax department and became its head. In 1990 he became head of the Corporate Finance department and, in 1992, head of the accounting, planning and controlling department. From 1997 he was a deputy and from 2000 to 2009 a full member of the Board of Management of Allianz AG. He is said to have made the group profitable again through his reform of reporting and controlling . Perlet is a member of the Supervisory Board of Commerzbank .

Perlet is considered to be one of the "fathers" of the EU Solvency II project to reform insurance supervisory law in Europe, which the EU Commission wanted to introduce in 2013.

He is honorary professor at the Dr. Wolfgang Schieren-Chair for Insurance and Risk Management at the Faculty of Economics at the Humboldt University in Berlin. The chair is funded by Allianz SE and the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft .

Perlet lives in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Pähl .
