Helmut Rußwurm

Helmut Rußwurm (born February 14, 1911 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein , † September 6, 1995 in Jockgrim ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

After attending elementary school in Ludwigshafen, Helmut Rußwurm attended Lessing-Gymnasium in Mannheim and, encouraged by his uncle, the painter Professor Albert Haueisen , studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe to become a painter and graphic artist. The training took place under Professors Karl Hubbuch and Wilhelm Schnarrenberger .

After three years of study, I did an internship at a graphic arts institute in Stuttgart. He then worked in the master school for craftsmen in Kaiserslautern, in the decorative painting department. He completed his practical time in the hometown of Ludwigshafen in a painting company.

Then he worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist in Stuttgart . At the age of 28, Helmut Rußwurm was drafted and used in France, Poland and Russia, where he was seriously wounded. From his home hospital in Bingen am Rhein he came to the replacement troop in Constance on Lake Constance and was assigned to “drawing and painting” for a year. During this time he painted three landscapes on the outer facade of a building of the Jägerkaserne, each picture 13 m wide and 4 m high, both artistically and technically excellent works, the largest in size - until today. Back at the front in Germany, Helmut Rußwurm was taken prisoner near Ulm, came to Heilbronn as a prisoner of war and from there to France and was released at Christmas 1945 because of the wound.

After the end of the war, Rußwurm worked in Stuttgart for twelve years, settled in Jockgrim in 1958 and was a teacher and head of the painting department at the vocational school in Germersheim from 1967 to 1977 .
