career

Ulm and Stuttgart, until 1966

At the age of 20, in 1962, the previous amateur footballer of ASV Pegnitz signed a contract with the promoted team in the Oberliga Süd, Ulm 1846, and moved from Upper Franconia to runner-up in the 2nd League South. The talented striker played all 30 association games in the last league season 1962/63 and scored 22 excellent goals for the team of coach Fred Hoffmann . Ulm came eighth in the south and only Rudi Brunnenmeier and Kurt Haseneder were in the list of goalscorers ahead of the ex-Pegnitzer with 24 goals each. At the side of goalkeeper Wolfgang Fahrian and his attacking colleagues Erwin Hoffmann , Dieter Praxl , Manfred Ruoff and Helmut Stocker , he immediately found his way in the highest class in the south. Due to the class re-classification for the 1963/64 round, Helmut Siebert played with Ulm in the Regionalliga Süd that season. Ulm finished eighth and the striker, who mostly played on the right wing, played 37 games and scored 18 goals. For the 1964/65 round he accepted an offer from Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart and moved to the Swabian metropolis.

Coach Kurt Baluses brought the newcomer from Ulm to use in the opening game on August 22, 1964 at Hamburger SV. The right wing succeeded in the 9th minute, the 1-0 lead for Stuttgart. The game ended in a 2-2 draw. In the further course of the round Siebert could not assert himself against the competition from Erwin Waldner , Rolf Geiger , Dieter Höller , Hartmut Weiß and Helmut Huttary and only came to six more games. In the exhibition cup he came to two additional inserts against Odense BK and Dunfermline. In his second year at VfB it didn't get any better under coach Rudi Gutendorf - the storm peaks were mostly Erwin Waldner, Hans-Otto Peters and Manfred Reiner - and Siebert only added three more missions. He played the last Bundesliga game on May 28, 1966 in a 4-1 home win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. In the 13th minute he gave Stuttgart a 2-1 lead. The VfB attack was manned by Siebert, Waldner, Peters, Huttary and Reiner. Since he had only played ten games with three goals for VfB Stuttgart from 1964 to 1966, Siebert signed a new contract for the 1966/67 round with Freiburg FC in the Regionalliga Süd.

Freiburg FC, 1966–1972

In 1966 , Karl-Heinz Bente came back to the Möslestadion and Fritz Treuheit from his own youth joined coach Fred Hoffmann's team of players. Siebert played 31 games and scored nine goals and the FFC finished seventh. In the third year in Breisgau - 1968/69 - Helmut Siebert was able to reach the runner-up behind the Karlsruher SC with Freiburg and thus moved into the Bundesliga promotion round. In it he played all eight games and was characterized in particular by his two hits in the 3-1 home win on June 1, 1969 against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and the 2-1 winner on June 4 at VfB Lübeck. The team of trainer Bernd Oles failed because of the worse goal difference in the Bundesliga promotion, tied with RWO . Until 1972, Helmut Siebert played 177 regional league games for the FFC, scoring 55 goals. After finishing sixth with coach Hans Wendtland in 1972, he stopped working in Freiburg and returned to the 1st Amateur League in Bavaria. He played from the 1972/73 series at FV Würzburg 04 and, at the age of 36, played another game in the 2nd Bundesliga South on December 18, 1977 in a 3-2 home win against Wormatia Worms. The Upper Franconian ended his career in Lower Franconia.

From December 1978 to June 30, 1979 he was head coach and from February 5, 1980 to March 26, 1980 as interim coach, the second division club FV 04 Würzburg .
