Helmut Tomac

Helmut Tomac (* 1965 ) is an Austrian police officer and administrative lawyer as well as the state police director of Tyrol . At the beginning of January 2020 it was announced that he would succeed Peter Goldgruber as Secretary General in the Ministry of the Interior under Minister Karl Nehammer . This also happened when the Federal Government Kurz II took office.

Career

Tomac entered the service of the Federal Gendarmerie in July 1988 and, after completing his basic training, completed his service in the Kematen and Jenbach gendarmerie posts . Tomac spent 1993 and 1994 with his E1 training as a police officer at the Security Academy . He was then transferred to the Lower Austria regional gendarmerie command, where he was head of the training department. Already in May 1995 he returned to his homeland in Tyrol, where he rose from head of department to deputy head of department and then to head of department in the regional gendarmerie command there. Tomac completed his law studies , which he had started in the meantime, in July 2003 with his graduation as Mag. Iur. from, then he was a participant in the 11th leadership course of the Federal Ministry of the Interior . In February Tomac moved again to Vienna, where he worked as a speaker in the cabinet of Interior Minister Günther Platter and then Maria Fekter . In November 2008 Tomac returned to Tyrol, where he succeeded Oskar Gallop , who had moved to Burgenland , as the state police commander . With the reform of the security authorities in 2012 , Tomac was appointed the first state police director in Tyrol. After the accession of the Federal Government Kurz II and its Interior Minister Karl Nehammer , Tomac was appointed Secretary General . Tomac's successor as state police director was his previous deputy Edelbert Kohler .
