Life

After completing eight years of schooling, Unger took up a job at the Hutschenreuther cutlery company in Aue , where his father had already worked as a silver foreman. In April 1942 he was drafted into military service by the Wehrmacht . After completing his military training, he served at the front in Greece. He was taken prisoner by the Soviets, worked in the quarry and underground. In the spring of 1949 he was delegated to the Antifa Central School . Back home, she was diagnosed with severe pulmonary tuberculosis . Long stays in hospitals and health centers and a health impairment as a result of tuberculosis made it difficult to find appropriate employment. He found employment as a clerk for the FDJ district board of Aue belonging to the Ferien- und Wanderwerk. In 1955 he took over the management of the Kulturhaus von Cranzahl , in 1960 the position of a cultural instructor at the council of the Annaberg district with work in the folk art cabinet in the "Wismut-Kulturhaus Erzhammer". From 1970 until his retirement in 1991 he was a research assistant at the Erzgebirge Museum in Annaberg-Buchholz .

He published 30 books and brochures, which deal primarily with the town history of Annaberg-Buchholz. These include transfers of numerous old manuscripts and city chronicles, such as those of Paulus Jenisius and Carl Friedrich Reiche-Eisenstuck . In addition, he tried to develop sources on the life of Adam Ries .

In 1990 he and his son Reinhart (* 1953) were honored with the City Prize for Journalism for his work . As a tribute to his 85th birthday, an exhibition was organized in 2008 in the Erzhammer cultural center in Annaberg-Buchholz. In 2013, the Haamit Arzgebirg exhibition in the Ore Mountains Museum Annaberg-Buchholz honored Unger's cultural and urban history on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
