Helmuth Thomas (born January 1, 1906 in Rotenburg an der Fulda ; † March 18, 1957 in Hamburg ) was a German specialist in German .

Helmuth Thomas studied with Gustav Roethe and Arthur Hübner at the Humboldt University in Berlin . During his studies he worked on the German dictionary , for which he wrote numerous articles in volumes IV to XIV with or independently until 1932. In 1939 he received his doctorate with a thesis on women praise . He then worked at the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences .

After the end of the Second World War , Thomas Ulrich Pretzel followed the German department at the University of Hamburg . From November 1945 to September 14, 1954, when he was elected as a scientific councilor, Thomas worked as a scientific employee. Thomas taught here on all historical states of the German language, in particular on medieval metrics and stanzas . In addition, he continued to work on a collection of material for a women's praise issue. The work appeared long after his death in 1981, edited by Karl Stackmann and Karl Bertau .
