The Helvetinjärvi [ ˈhɛlvɛtinjærvi ] ("Hell Lake") is a lake in the Finnish landscape of Pirkanmaa . It also forms the center of the Helvetinjärvi National Park of the same name (Helvetinjärven kansallispuisto) . This 1982 founded, 49.8 square kilometers large National Park stretches between Ruovesi in the east, Virrat in the north, the National Park Seitseminen the west and Kuru in the south.

The landscape, created 200 million years ago with its rugged forests, inspired poets and artists such as Johan Ludvig Runeberg or Akseli Gallén-Kallela as early as the 19th century . The greatest attraction of the national park is the Helvetinkolu rock crevice (“ Hell's Gap ”), through which the visitor can reach a small refuge and a swimming area on Helvetinjärvi.

The national park can be reached either on foot via the Pirkan Taival hiking trail from Ruovesi and Virrat or by car via an access road from Ruovesi. The park has several small tent sites .
