Henderson Chambers
Henderson Chambers (* 1. May 1908 in Alexandria (Indiana) ; † 19th October 1967 in New York City ) was an American jazz - trombone .
Henderson Chambers studied at Leland College and Morehouse College; then he played from 1931 in the band of Neil Montgomery . In Nashville , Tennessee , he worked at Doc Banks in 1932, then at Jack Jackson's Pullman Porters, Speed Webb , Zack Whyte and at Al Sears in Kentucky.
After two years with Tiny Bradshaw in the mid-1930s, Chambers moved to New York, where he performed with Chris Columbus in the Savoy Ballroom in 1939/40 . then he worked for Louis Armstrong until 1943 , and in the late 1940s with Don Redman , Sy Oliver , Lucky Millinder and Count Basie . In the 1950s he still played with Cab Calloway , Doc Cheatham , Duke Ellington and Mercer Ellington ; he also worked as a studio musician. After playing in Ray Charles ' backing band from 1961 to 1963 , he worked again in the Count Basie Orchestra until 1966 . Shortly before his death from a heart attack, he was still playing in Edgar Battle .
