Henk Vonhoff
Henk Vonhoff (full name: Hendrik Johan Lubert Vonhoff ; born June 23, 1931 in Amsterdam , † July 25, 2010 in Hilversum ) was a Dutch politician .
Life
Shortly after the end of World War II , he joined the liberal party VVD, founded in 1948 .
After ten years teaching history in Amsterdam , Vonhoff was elected to the second chamber of the Dutch parliament in 1967. In 1971 he became State Secretary for Culture and Sport . From 1974 to 1980 he was mayor of Utrecht . Then he was the Queen's Commissioner in the province of Groningen until 1996 . In 1986 he was offered the position of Minister of Defense in Ruud Lubbers' second cabinet . He refused because Lubbers did not promise him that his successor as the Queen's agent would also be a member of the VVD, and preferred Groningen.
From 1985 to 1989 Henk Vonhoff was chairman of the Dutch National Olympic Committee .
Vonhoff was considered a liberal institution with a thorough knowledge of the Dutch constitution and history. Until his death he was an authority in his party. Vonhoff was an honorary member of the VVD.
