Henri Petri

Henri Wilhelm Petri (born April 5, 1856 in Zeist (near Utrecht ), † April 7, 1914 in Dresden ) was a Dutch classical violinist and composer.

Life

Petri spent his youth in Utrecht , where his father was an oboist in the city chapel. First he received violin lessons from these violin lessons, after the death of his father from the concertmaster there, from 1871 three years with Joseph Joachim in Berlin and finally in Brussels .

In 1877 he was a soloist in London, then concertmaster in Sondershausen and Hanover , from October 1882 concertmaster of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig and from 1889 “Royal Saxon Concertmaster” of the Dresden court orchestra . During his time in Leipzig he was also a member of the Gewandhaus Quartet . In Dresden he founded the Petri Quartet .

Petri emerged as a composer with violin pieces and songs.

He is the father of the pianist Egon Petri .
