Henri Simonin (born November 19, 1855 in Pruntrut , † November 6, 1927 in Bern ) was a Swiss judge and politician ( FDP ). From 1904 to 1917 he was a member of the National Council, from 1904 until his death he served as a member of the Bern government .

biography

The son of a teacher studied law at the universities of Leipzig and Bern . Simonin was admitted to the bar in 1880 and worked as a lawyer in Pruntrut for the next two years . From 1882 to 1884 he served as President of the District Court of Delsberg , then for another twenty years as a judge at the Higher Court of the Canton of Bern .

When Louis Joliat resigned as member of the National Council in 1904 , Simonin was elected as his successor in a by-election in the constituency of Northern Jura . As a result, he was re-elected four times and was a member of parliament until 1917. Also in 1904 he was elected to the government council. As a member of the Bern cantonal government, he was in charge of the Justice Department. Among other things, he reorganized the notarial system, reorganized the judicial authorities and introduced a new municipal law. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Federal Railways . Simonin advocated greater autonomy for the French-speaking Jura within the Canton of Bern, but resisted separatist efforts.

The diplomat Pierre-Yves Simonin is his grandson.
