Henricus Egbertus Vinke (born June 24, 1794 in Amsterdam , † August 27, 1862 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch Reformed theologian.

Life

Henricus Egbertus was the son of the merchant and shopkeeper Lambertus Vinke and Geertruida van Ittersum (* around 1755; † May 21, 1835 in Utrecht). He attended the Latin school and in 1811 the local Athenaeum Illustre . In 1814 he moved to the University of Utrecht where he studied theological sciences under the direction of Hermann Royaards , Jodocus Heringa Eliza's zoon and Gabriel van Oordt . On August 1, 1817, he was examined by the regional church council of North Holland for his mock exam and on November 9, 1817, he was pastor in Lage Vuursche . Here he prepared for his doctorate and on June 19, 1818, under Heringa, he was promoted to Doctor of Theology with the work Specimen hermeneutico-theologicum, quo vaticinationes Jesu Christi, de perpessionibus suis, morte et in vitam reditu, illustrantur et vindicantur . On April 3, 1820, he changed as pastor to Jutphaas , on October 7, 1821 to Alkmaar and on May 10, 1829 as pastor to Utrecht.

On August 23, 1836 he was appointed professor of theology at the University of Utrecht, which task he took over on December 8, 1836 with the introductory speech De germano philosopho, optimo theologo . Here he also took part in the organizational tasks of the university and was rector of the Alma Mater in 1839/40 and 1854/55 . At the time of the retirement he gave the speech de religionis christianae in conformandis hominum animis iisque consolandis vi atque efficacitate in 1840 and de vera fidei christianae notione, nostris praesertim temporibus memoria tenenda et in omnium animis imprimenda in 1855 . He was a Dutch exponent of the dogmatics of biblical supernaturalism , in the mid-19th century. Vinke was a member of the Society for Dutch Literature in Leiden in 1851, and in 1831 a member of the Provincial Utrecht Society of Sciences and Arts and Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion .

Vinke married on November 9, 1817 in Lage Vuursche with Petronella Sondorp (born November 24, 1790 in Zwolle, † May 1, 1859 in Utrecht), the daughter of Hermanus Sondorp and Johanna van Ittersum. Three sons and three daughters are said to have survived him. From the children we know:
