Henrik Horn (diplomat)

Henrik Karlsson Horn (* 1578 ; † May 20, 1618 in Stockholm ) was a leading Swedish diplomat .

Life

Henrik Horn was the son of the Swedish Councilor Carl Henriksson Horn af Kanckas (around 1550-1601) and his wife Agneta, née von Dellwig († 1611). His brothers were the future field marshals Gustaf Karlsson Horn and Evert Karlsson Horn and the governor general of Swedish-Pomerania Klas Karlsson Horn .

After his studies, which included a trip abroad in keeping with his time and rank, Henrik Horn was appointed chamberlain to Duke Karl, who later became King Karl IX , in 1602 . Three years later he became the tutor of his two sons Gustav Adolf and Carl Philip . After successful diplomatic missions in the Netherlands in 1607 and in Denmark in 1610 , Henrik Horn was appointed Imperial Councilor in 1611.

A year later he became field marshal and 1612/13 envoy to the peace negotiations with Denmark in Ulfsbäck and Knäred . In the negotiations for the peace of Stolbowo 1616/17 he took part in a leading position. In 1618 he became a lagman in Norrland and then in southern Finland , but died that same year.

In 1602 he married Anna Jönsdotter Sneckenborg in Nyköping Castle. The couple had at least two children: Henrik Henriksson Horn and Helena Horn.
