In 1948 Carlsson moved to RC Paris , where he spent a season. Here he became the French cup winner. He then moved on to Atlético Madrid in the Primera División . With the club he was two Spanish champions. In 1953 he ended his active career and returned to Sweden.

Carlsson donned the Swedish national shirt 26 times between 1941 and 1949 and scored 17 international goals. At the Olympic Games in 1948 he was one of the selection that knew how to impress with spectacular football - 22 goals in four games - and won the gold medal with a 3-1 final victory over Yugoslavia . After moving to Spain - in France he was still officially an amateur - he was no longer appointed because the Swedish federation rejected profit and accordingly did not consider professional players.
