Nils Gustav Henry "Garvis" Carlsson (born October 27, 1917 in Falköping , † May 28, 1999 in Solna ) was a Swedish football player and coach .
career
Player career
Carlsson initially played for IK Göta and Falköpings GIS . He made his debut for AIK Solna in the 3-2 win over Sandvikens IF on September 3, 1939 in the Allsvenskan . By 1948 he played 192 first division games for the club and scored 97 goals.
In 1948 Carlsson moved to RC Paris , where he spent a season. Here he became the French cup winner. He then moved on to Atlético Madrid in the Primera División . With the club he was two Spanish champions. In 1953 he ended his active career and returned to Sweden.
Carlsson donned the Swedish national shirt 26 times between 1941 and 1949 and scored 17 international goals. At the Olympic Games in 1948 he was one of the selection that knew how to impress with spectacular football - 22 goals in four games - and won the gold medal with a 3-1 final victory over Yugoslavia . After moving to Spain - in France he was still officially an amateur - he was no longer appointed because the Swedish federation rejected profit and accordingly did not consider professional players.
Coaching career
Carlsson was initially a youth coach at AIK. In 1956 he took over the men's team, which he supervised for one season. In 1958 he went to Sundbybergs IK , where he returned to the field as a player-coach for the first two years. This commitment ended in 1964 and he took over AIK again until 1966. 1969 to 1971 he was responsible for IF Brommapojkarna . This was his last coaching position.
Carlsson was awarded a Stor Grabb .
