Henry Cousins ​​Chambers (born July 26, 1823 in Limestone County , Alabama , † May 1, 1871 in Bolivar County , Mississippi ) was an American plantation owner and Confederate politician ( Democratic Party ). The US Senator Henry H. Chambers (1790-1826) was his father.

Career

Henry Cousins ​​Chambers was born in Limestone County about eight years after the end of the British-American War . Nothing is known about his youth or his private life. He graduated from Princeton College . Then at some point he moved to Mississippi. In 1859 he sat there in the House of Representatives . After the Mississippi Secession and the outbreak of the Civil War , he ran in the 4th constituency of Mississippi for the first Confederate Congress . During the election campaign it came on October 15, 1861 with his political opponent, the lawyer William A. Lake (1808-1861), in Hopefield ( Arkansas ), which is opposite Memphis ( Tennessee ) on the west bank of the Mississippi , to a duel , in which William A. Lake was killed. In November 1861, Chambers was elected to the Confederate Congress, where he took up his post on February 18, 1862. Chambers ran successfully for the Second Confederate Congress and was then active there until 1865. He died about six years after the end of the war in Bolivar County, Mississippi. His body was then transferred to Memphis, Tennessee, where he was buried in Elmwood Cemetery .
