Henry Grayson

Sir Henry Mulleneux Grayson, 1st Baronet , KBE , KStJ (born June 26, 1865 in Birkenhead , † October 27, 1951 ) was a British shipbuilder and politician .

Life

Grayson was born to Henry Holdrege Grayson and his wife Elizabeth Mulleneux. He was trained at Winchester College and played two first-class games for the Liverpool and District against Nottinghamshire (1889) and Yorkshire (1890). He scored 66 runs with an average of 16.50 and a maximum of 42. He was the brother of John Grayson , who also played first-class cricket.

He then joined the family-owned shipbuilding and repair company H. & C. Grayson Ltd. a. This was founded in 1760 on the River Mersey . His father was the company's managing director. After the death of his father in 1904 he succeeded as managing director and became managing director of Garston Graving Dock & Shipbuilding Co Ltd.

In 1914 he became a member of the advisory committee of shipbuilders of the Admiralty . From 1916 to 1919 he was Director of Ship Repairs (Home), a commission of the Royal Marines . For this work he was named Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1920 . In the same year he was knighted as Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE). In the 1922 New Year Honors, he was raised to Hereditary Baronet , of Ravenspoint in the County of Angelsey. He was honored with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Marines .

In 1918 he was elected to the House of Commons as the first MP for the Conservative Party in the newly formed constituency of Birkenhead West . He held this mandate until 1922.

He lived on Anglesey . There he was also high sheriff in 1917 .

Private life

He was married twice. In his first marriage he was married to Dora Beatrice Harrington, daughter of Frederick Harrington, since April 16, 1891. The divorce took place in 1927 and they had twelve children:
