Henry Mayer (composer)
Henry Mayer (actually Heinz Meier; born November 18, 1925 in Nuremberg ; † September 22, 1998 ; other pseudonyms: Heinz Meiner, Paul Reym, Rolf Staudt, Thomas Werr) was a German pop composer .
Work as a pop composer
Henry Mayer created numerous successful titles, among others in collaboration with German hit writers. Well-known works include: When the Silbermond goes on a journey written for Peggy March (1964), When you're alone (with Kurt Hertha ) for Manfred Schnelldorfer (1964), Memories of Heidelberg (with Georg Buschor ), sung by Peggy March (1966), or Gus Backus (1967), Are they the Count of Luxembourg (with Fred Weyrich ), sung by Dorthe Kollo (1968), Arrivederci Hans (with Georg Buschor) for Rita Pavone (1968), Wer Verbottungen ( with Fini Busch ) for Rex Gildo (1968), A Student from Uppsala (with Georg Buschor) for Kirsti Sparboe (1969) and again for Peggy March In Carneby Street (1969).
In 1975 he wrote with Fred Jay for Bata Illic I still have sand in my shoes from Hawaii . In 1977, Johanna von Koczian sang the hit Das little household ... says my husband , to whom Mayer wrote the melody.
Mayer achieved international success with the composition Sommerwind , which he wrote for Grethe Ingmann in 1965 (German text by Hans Bradtke ) and which was unsuccessful at the 1965 German Schlager Festival . The English-language cover version Summer Wind with lyrics by Johnny Mercer , sung by Frank Sinatra , became a worldwide hit in 1966. The melody to Elfi Graf's "Hearts Have No Windows", a top 20 hit in Austria and Germany in 1973, was also a worldwide hit. There have been several very successful cover versions, including a. the song became "My Melody Of Love" in 1974 with Bobby Vinton a million seller in the USA.
