At the Franconian club Onwuzuruike came on November 20, 1999 in the 0-1 away defeat at 1. FSV Mainz 05 to his professional debut in the 2nd Bundesliga . As a result, he was used irregularly and shuttled between the starting eleven and substitutes' bench. After he could not finally prevail, he moved to the Bayern division 1. SC Feucht . With his new club he was promoted to the Regionalliga Süd in 2003 . There he was one of the top performers and with seven goals behind Roberto Hilbert and Stefan Hampl was one of the club's top three goal scorers.
The second division promoted FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt then committed Onwuzuruike. Even in his second professional position he wavered between the starting line-up and bench, only under coach Ján Kocian he was able to establish himself in the regular formation towards the end of the season. Even after relegation, he initially remained loyal to the club for a year and helped the team to stay in the Regionalliga Nord. After the end of the season he moved to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg for TSV Crailsheim , who had ambitions for promotion. After the promotion was not made in 2007 and the qualification for the new fourth-class regional league was missed in the following season, he left the club and moved to SSV Ulm in 1846 within Württemberg . After a year on the Danube, the new coach Manfred Paula decided not to plan with him. After Ralf Becker took over the training in October 2009, however, he returned to the team.
During the winter break of the 2010/11 season Onwuzuruike moved to the regional division SV Darmstadt 98 and contributed to the rise of the lilies in the 3rd division . After 15 appearances in the third division 2011/12, he left SV98 at the end of the season. In January 2013 he joined the Württemberg state division club SV Ebersbach.
