Henry Warner Slocum junior (born May 28, 1862 in Syracuse , New York , † October 22, 1949 in New York City ) was an American tennis player and winner of the US championships in 1888 and 1889.

Career

Slocum, son of Northern General and Congressman Henry Warner Slocum , played football and tennis as a law student at Yale University . In 1883 he took part in the first hosting of the Intercollegiate Championships in tennis and won the double title alongside Walter Camp .

At the American Championships in Newport in 1888 he won the individual at the fourth attempt. The following year he was able to defend the singles title and also win the doubles title alongside Howard Taylor .

After the win, Slocum concentrated on his work as a lawyer. In 1892 he went back to Newport, but suffered a defeat in the first round with 0: 6, 0: 6 and 0: 6 against WN Ryerson. He last took part in the US championships in 1913. In 1892 and 1893 he was also president of the US tennis association USTA .

He died in New York in 1949. In 1955 he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame .
