action
The episodes usually begin with a piece of paper on which Bess writes a sentence corresponding to the episode title, or which is already written on it. During the episode, Bess is writing a song on the subject.
Bess is in her early twenties and lives in New York City. She gets by with lots of small jobs and writes on her songs as often as she can. However, she does not dare to play it in front of a larger audience, which is why she is strongly motivated by her friends and family to trust herself more.
characters
Bess Alice King
Bess is in her early twenties and works as a bartender in a club with live music. She also takes care of other people's dogs, gives music lessons to children and sings with seniors. She writes songs and prefers to sing them alone where nobody hears them, mostly in her storage room at the piano. When performing, she primarily pays attention to the audience's reaction and attaches great importance to this, which is why the negative reactions during her last appearance urged them to avoid others. However, she is always supported by friends and family and motivated more to take care of her music career. She protects her brother and takes care of him. She likes Ethan, but resents him for hiding his girlfriend from her. She is her greatest critic herself and judges herself too severely in Samuel's opinion and is often too cerebral. She also has a clear idea of her song and doesn't like to be dissuaded. She doesn't like to be told anything about Samuel, but mostly understands his opinion and then gives in. Her inspiration for the songs comes from everywhere over the course of an episode.
Louie King
He is Bess' brother and has an intellectual disability. He ekes out his existence in a home after he used to live with his sister. He has a strong passion for the theater and would therefore like to work there, but an application from him is rejected. To others he seems rather brisk because he likes to talk a lot and has difficulties with social interaction.
Percy King
Percy is the father of Louie and Bess and sings in an a cappella band. He supports his two children with everything he has.
Ethane
He has a storage room right next to Bess's. Both get to know each other when he asks for an extension cable, whereupon she is angry that he has entered the room without asking. She then apologizes and spends the evening with him. He meets her again in the club where she works, where Bess meets his girlfriend, whom he has kept from her. However, he still wants to be friends with her, and he can do this.
Samuel
Samuel is a friend of Bess and helps her with her songs. He sings with her and plays the guitar with her songs.
Prisha
She is the roommate and a good friend of Bess and plays in a band. Her parents try to find a husband for her, but she reveals to Bess that she is a lesbian, taking the racist attack on her as an opportunity to bow to her parents' wishes.
Benny
He's a bartender in the same club as Bess and therefore her work colleague. He gets Bess to perform and motivates her in her singing career.

criticism
“The 'Little Voice' series celebrates the dreams of young musicians in New York. Producer Sara Bareilles also appears under her own name. She created a musical fairy tale - a lively memorial. "
“[...] The series created by the musician Sara Bareilles and the filmmaker Jessie Nelson, the team behind the Broadway musical 'Waitress', stands for a democratic ideal: Everyone can find and cultivate their own little voice, defeat their stage fright get up in front of an audience and [...] become a star.
