Herbert Bopp

Herbert Bopp (born February 12, 1949 in Ummendorf , Biberach an der Riss district ) is a German journalist and blogger . He has lived as a freelance correspondent (radio, television, Internet) in Montreal since October 1982 and reported mainly on Canada and Alaska , but also from other parts of the world.

Life

From 1959 to 1965, Bopp attended the Wieland grammar school in Biberach an der Riss. He then completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter with the Schwäbische Zeitung , which belonged to the Biberach publishing house, until 1968 . This was followed by a two-year editorial traineeship at the Waiblinger Kreiszeitung , for which he worked as an editor from 1970 to 1973.

In December 1973 Herbert Bopp emigrated to Canada. There he worked until 1976 as deputy editor-in-chief at Canada Kurier, a German-language weekly newspaper based in Winnipeg .

In 1976 he returned to Germany and worked as an editor for the Schwäbische Zeitung in Leutkirch im Allgäu, first in the national editorial team “Landesüberblick”, then as a police and court reporter in the Ulm editorial team. From 1978 to 1980 he held a managerial position at the Badische Zeitung , editorial team in Weil am Rhein.

At the end of 1980 he emigrated to Canada a second time and worked for the Canada Courier as a reporter and deputy editor-in-chief for another two years. At the end of 1982 he moved to Montreal and opened an editorial office there. Years as a producer and speaker at Radio Canada International , the international broadcaster of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and activities as a freelance correspondent followed.

From 2002 to 2014, Bopp trained journalists in the online sector. He mainly taught for West German Broadcasting (WDR), but also for numerous other ARD broadcasters .

Since leaving daily journalism, Herbert Bopp regularly spends the first half of the year in Palma de Mallorca. There he works as a blogger and book author.

Awards

The RIAS Berlin Commission honored Herbert Bopp with the New Media Award for his “particularly innovative Internet reporting” on the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 in the USA . WDR and tagesschau.de published his “New Yorker Diary” on their websites.
