Herbert Callhoff

Herbert Callhoff (born August 13, 1933 in Viersen ; † February 20, 2016 in Cologne ) was a German composer and university professor.

Callhoff studied church music at the Folkwang University in Essen and at the Cologne University of Music . His composition teachers were Siegfried Reda and Jürg Baur . He worked as a church musician at St. Elisabeth in Düsseldorf for around 10 years . Since 1969 he has been teaching music theory and composition at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf . In 1975 he was appointed professor . From 1995 to 1998 he was the rector of the university.

His compositional work includes choral music, orchestral music, chamber music and organ works. In 1984 he was awarded the composition prize of the city of Neuss .

Callhoff was buried on February 27, 2016 in the Cologne-Melaten cemetery (hallway 64 no. 469).
