Herbert Georg Mayer (* 1943 ) is a German computer scientist who works for Intel at the interface between hardware and software in management functions.

Life

After graduating from high school (1964) at the Moltkeplatz grammar school in Krefeld , he studied mathematics , physics , electronics and computer science at the TU Berlin and worked as a freelancer in the developing computer industry . Since the development that interests him mainly took place in California , he moved to the USA in 1979, where he obtained a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, San Diego , in 1983 . He stayed at the university as a lecturer in computer science before being commissioned by Intel in 1987 to set up a working group for the Program Development Environment (PDE) group for the iWarp systolic array . Since he had successfully managed this, he was given the task of setting up and managing the training department for iWarp. At the same time, he did his doctorate in computer science at the TU Berlin ( Parallel execution enabled by refined source analysis: cost and benefits in a supercompiler , December 1995). At Intel, management tasks followed in the Supercomputer Systems Division and in system validation for the 82450NX chipset. From 2004 to 2014 he was the technical director of the PCEV Compatibility Validation (CV) for the Intel processor production in the USA and Mexico and oversaw the team of planning engineers working for Intel worldwide. Previously he was only a visiting lecturer, so he teaches as an honorary professor at Portland State University (since 2017 also as a professor at the University of Changchun , China ). He is the author of textbooks on programming languages.
