Live and act

Herbert Huber began studying medicine in 1926 at the University of Heidelberg . He spent the clinical semesters at the Universities of Freiburg, Vienna and Zurich. He passed the medical state examination in 1931 at the University of Freiburg . Medical license (1932) and doctorate (1934) also took place in Freiburg.

After completing his pathological-anatomical training at the University Women's Clinic in Berlin with Robert Meyer , Huber began his assistantship in the surgical department of the Westend Hospital in Berlin with Arthur Waldemar Meyer. In 1934 Huber moved to Dortmund to the surgeon Georg Ernst Konjetzny . In the same year he was appointed to the surgical university clinic in Greifswald , where Huber followed him. In Greifswald, Huber switched from surgery to gynecology and in 1934 became an assistant to Ernst Philipp , the then director of the Greifswald University Women's Clinic. After Philipp was appointed to the Kiel University Women's Clinic in 1937, Huber followed him there.

In 1939 , Huber completed his habilitation with the thesis "Myom, Sterilität und Fertilität" in Kiel, where he was appointed senior physician in 1941 and an adjunct professor in 1945. In 1940 Huber married the doctor Othild Boesser. From this marriage between 1942 and 1948 four daughters were born.

In 1954, Huber accepted an appointment at the University Women's Clinic in Marburg and was appointed professor of gynecology and obstetrics as the successor to Carl Kaufmann . In 1959/60, Huber was elected Dean of the Medical Faculty of Marburg.

After Ernst Philipp's death in 1961, Huber accepted the call to his former place of work in Kiel in 1963 and from then on headed the university women's clinic there. In 1966/67, Huber was Dean of the Medical Faculty of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. For health reasons, Huber had to hand over the ordinariate at the women's clinic prematurely in 1970 to his successor Kurt Semm . Huber died in 1977.

In his scientific work, Huber mainly dealt with clinical and pathological-anatomical issues. During his assistantship in Greifswald, the clinical picture of endometriosis and the sterility problem were the focus of his scientific work. In Kiel, Huber continued his research on the pathophysiology and clinic of endometriosis. The investigations by Philipp and Huber made fundamental contributions to the etiology of endometriosis in the sense of metastatic origin.

Since 1947, Huber was primarily concerned with the malignant growth of the female genitalia. This research was based on the patient population of the Kiel University Clinic, which had been continuously available since 1922. Along with Georg Hörmann, a student of Philipp and Huber, Huber conducted research on the problem of pathological growths chorionic ( trophoblastic and choriocarcinoma ), also under anatomical and clinical aspects.

During his time in Marburg (1954–1963), Huber and his colleagues dealt with the problems of pregnancy anemia, pregnancy toxicosis and genital tuberculosis, among other things.

In 1965 Huber was elected chairman of the " Northwest German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics ". In 1970 he received honorary membership of the Finnish Society of Gynecology, Helsinki.

Huber initially worked together with Philipp, then from 1962 to 1972 as sole editor of the Journal for Obstetrics and Gynecology , which was renamed the Journal for Obstetrics and Perinatology during its editing .
