Herbert Kunze (sports official)
Herbert Kunze (born November 14, 1908 in Berlin ; † August 31, 2007 in Munich ) was a German ice hockey and tennis player and ice hockey official.
Live and act
Herbert Kunze studied law and economics and was employed as a councilor at the Reich Ministry of Finance from 1940 to 1945 . In 1947 he opened a law firm in Düsseldorf, which he moved to Munich in 1974. He was also a member of the management of the Association of German Banks in Cologne from 1951 to 1966 .
Kunze began as an active ice hockey and tennis player at the Berliner Sport-Club and was there from 1942 to 1945 executive president of the club. In 1948 he became the first president of the German Ice Sports Association (DEV) and remained so for 44 years until 1992. He was a co-founder of the National Olympic Committee (NOK) and the German Sports Association (DSB).
He accompanied the German Olympic team as head of delegation at the Winter Olympics from 1952 in Oslo to 1964 in Innsbruck . At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich , he was Secretary General of the Organizing Committee.
Herbert Kunze has received several awards. He received the Federal Cross of Merit , was a Knight of the Legion of Honor (France), received the Golden Ring of Honor from the City of Munich and was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit . He was an honorary member of the German Ice Sports Association and the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB). In 1981 he received the Olympic Order of the International Olympic Committee.
Herbert Kunze died on August 31, 2007 at the age of 98.
